Automotive manufacturer Stellantis is planning to relocate its Maserati production from Turin site to the less-utilised facility in Modena, Italy, reported Bloomberg citing people familiar with the situation.
This strategic move is part of a broader initiative to concentrate on the production of premium models such as the Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio at the Modena site.

The decision aligns with Stellantis chairman John Elkann’s efforts to strengthen the company’s relationship with the Italian government.
The latest transition is expected to be complemented by an increase in hybrid Fiat 500 production in Turin, which will compensate for the Maserati output shift, the people said.
Furthermore, the company is focusing on revitalising the Maserati brand, which experienced a significant drop in deliveries in 2024 due to product range gaps and “misguided” electric strategy.
Stellantis is looking to mend ties with Italian government after a period of tension under former CEO Carlos Tavares, whose focus on cost-cutting led to strained relations.
The company has committed to a $2bn investment in Italy this year and has assured no closure of Italian factories, marking a departure from the previous cost-cutting approach.
Recent developments at Stellantis include plans to recruit over 100 engineers at the Mirafiori site in Turin and to start manufacturing electrified dual-clutch transmissions at the Termoli plant.
As reported by the Fim-Cisl labour union, the Modena factory produced only 260 cars last year, representing a 79% decline in output.
In December, Stellantis announced an extension of the production halt at the Mirafiori plant until 20 January 2025, following an initial stoppage that began on 2 December and was intended to last until 5 January, affecting the electric Fiat 500 line.
