Nuvve Holding, a provider of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, has established its new company, NUVVE Japan, marking a significant expansion of its international operations.

The new venture is set to advance the adoption of V2G technology in Japan, aligning with the country’s growing commitment to sustainable energy and electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure.

With this establishment, Nuvve intends to introduce its franchise business model, which invites local entities and investors to partially own and invest in the regional business.

This approach allows local investors to concentrate on market-specific opportunities and offers the potential for future ownership in Nuvve Holding’s common stock.

Furthermore, investors can undertake non-diluted actions upon exit. This helps investor’s ability to maximise returns without affecting current shareholders, Nuvve said.

Nuvve CEO and founder Gregory Poilasne said: “This business model allows us to address new opportunities worldwide while mitigating our risks to our shareholders.

“This is a win-win opportunity for the local investors who can benefit from Nuvve’s local success and for Nuvve to scale the business with localised sources of capital.”

The company has also named Masa Higashida to lead NUVVE Japan. Higashida has over three decades of experience in leading fintech businesses across the Asia-Pacific.

Nuvve’s V2G technology allows EVs to communicate with the power grid, optimising energy consumption, reducing costs, and contributing to grid stability.

Higashida added: “This business model is an ideal fit for Japan where both stationary battery and EV business are expanding rapidly.

“There is a tremendous opportunity and pent-up demand in Japan for V2G solutions, and Nuvve delivers the technology and ability to adapt to our grid infrastructure.”

In a related development last month, Nuvve secured a contract from the State of New Mexico in the US to provide a comprehensive electrification solution, supporting the state’s zero-emission vehicle adoption and renewable energy objectives.
