Volkswagen-owned Bentley Motors has initiated the construction of its new integrated logistics centre at its headquarters in Crewe, the UK to produce electric vehicles (EVs).

Set to be completed by October 2025 and operational by mid-2026, the new facility will optimise logistics for Bentley’s battery-powered electric vehicle (BEV) production.

The facility is said to be integral to Bentley’s Beyond100+ strategy, which envisions a fully electric product lineup by 2035.

Covering an area of 11,620m2, the new facility will enhance the efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability of the company’s logistics operations for Bentley’s future BEV production, set to commence in 2027.

It will streamline material processing and delivery, incorporating advanced kitting and sequencing capabilities to enhance efficiency.

By expanding onsite storage by 35%, Bentley aims to reduce external warehousing dependence and transportation needs.

The centre will also feature an automated storage concept, a first within the Volkswagen Group, to enhance process stability and material sequencing.

The design of the facility includes a three-storey mezzanine that will accommodate a visitor room, canteen, offices, training rooms, plant equipment, and a viewing platform for operational oversight.

This layout is intended to ensure seamless logistics operations with direct connectivity to production operations.

Bentley member of the board for manufacturing Andreas Lehe said: “Breaking ground on the Integrated Logistics Centre marks a key milestone in Bentley’s journey to full electrification.

“The centre will transform our logistics operations by enhancing efficiency, managing customer variety, and integrating cutting-edge automation. This investment ensures that Bentley can offer an all-electric portfolio while maintaining the highest standards of quality and sustainability.”

Last month, Bentley launched an excellence centre for quality & launch facility at its Crewe headquarters, reinforcing the commitment to electrification under the Beyond100+ strategy.
