LG Innotek Company, an electronic component manufacturer belonging to South Korea’s LG Group, announced that it plans to begin commercial production of automotive application processor (AP) modules from the second half of 2025.

LG Innotek, widely known as a supplier of camera modules for Apple Inc, has an expanding automotive electronic components portfolio that includes sensors, in-cabin lighting, controls and communication modules. The company is targeting annual sales of automotive electronic components to reach KRW5trn (US$3.5bn) in the next five years, as part of its efforts to reduce its dependence on the US iPhone maker.

AP modules are the central processing units (CPUs) for connected vehicles, controlling safety systems such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and in-car infotainment systems. They typically measure 6.5 x 6.5 cm and contain components such as system-on-chips to process data, graphics, displays and multimedia; memory semiconductors; and power management circuits.

LG Innotek expects the global market for vehicle AP modules to grow from 33 million units in 2025 to 113 million units in 2030, equivalent to 22% compound annual growth over the next five years. The company said it plans to leverage its expertise in high-density and precision technologies, achieved with its core substrate and communication module businesses, to add significant value to existing AP modules on the market. A company official confirmed: “We plan to launch mass produce in the second half of this year. We have already held meetings with global semiconductor companies in North America to market our products.”
