BMW-owned Rolls-Royce has unveiled plans to invest over £300m ($376m) to expand its Goodwood plant in the UK to focus on producing ‘bespoke’ cars and prepare for an all-electric future.

This is the largest capital infusion since the facility’s inauguration on 1 January 2003.

The investment will enhance the plant’s capacity to deliver customised ‘bespoke’ services and the exclusive Coachbuild programme.

Additionally, the expansion will prepare the manufacturing site for Rolls-Royce’s transition to an all-battery electric vehicle (BEV) future.

The Goodwood plant, which has seen its workforce grow more than eightfold since its opening, now employs over 2,500 people and produces up to 28 motor cars a day.

Planning permission for the extension of the Goodwood site was granted in 2024.

The BMW-owned company has experienced a slight decline in global sales, with 5,712 cars sold in 2024, a drop of more than 5% from the 6,032 cars sold in 2023.

In 2024, the most requested models from Rolls-Royce globally were the Cullinan, Spectre, and the Ghost, the firm said.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars chief executive Chris Brownridge said: “This represents our most substantial financial commitment to Goodwood since its opening in 2003 and a significant vote of confidence in the Rolls-Royce marque, securing our future here in the UK.

“2024’s record Bespoke results demonstrate our clients are increasingly drawn to the marque to create ever more ambitious and valuable motor cars, thereby enjoying the exceptional and highly personalised experience that Rolls-Royce ownership unlocks.”

In November 2024, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars opened Private Office Seoul in South Korea, its fifth global Private Office.
