Japanese automotive components manufacturers Yazaki Group, through its Yazaki (China) Investment Corporation (YCIC) subsidiary, has launched a new joint venture in the Chinese capital of Beijing in partnership with IAT Automobile Technology Company Ltd focused on the development and production of high-voltage electrical systems for new energy vehicles (NEVs).
Beijing IAT Yazaki New Energy Technology Company Ltd began operations this week at its base in “Beijing E-Town”, an economic and technological development area located in south-eastern Beijing, following an opening ceremony attended by Yazaki Group president and representative director Riku Yazaki, IAT’s chairman Xuan Qiwu and YCIC chairman Akifumi Masui.

Beijing-listed IAT is described as a design and engineering company focused mainly on the NEV segment, including the development of platforms for smart battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and the production of related components.
Yazaki Group is a global manufacturer of electrical systems, including automotive wire harnesses, smart cockpits and battery-related components, with contracts with most of the world’s global vehicle manufacturers. The company is estimated to account for around 30% of the global automotive wiring harness market.
The new joint venture will bring together the technological capabilities of both companies as they look to expand their business in China’s NEV sector. Yazaki describes high-voltage electrical systems as the “heart” of NEVs, with their performance “directly related to the energy efficiency, driving range and safety of the vehicle”.
More specifically, the new joint venture will focus on developing power battery systems, drive systems, charging and distribution systems over the next two years, with a view to launching mass production.
