GAC Aion New Energy Automobile (GAC Aion), the electric vehicle (EV) unit of Guangzhou based state owned automaker GAC Group, said it planned to build an electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant in Indonesia in partnership with local distributor Indomobil Group.

Just Auto reported earlier this week the two companies had just signed a local distribution agreement with plans to launch sales operations next June. The company said it would introduce four new models in Indonesia in the next year, starting with the Y Plus and Hyper HT.

The Indonesian factory would be GAC Aion’s second in south east Asia with the company scheduled to begin production at a new assembly plant in Thailand later this year.

GAC Aion said in a statement it plans to “localise its production and supply chain to offer Indonesian consumers a wide range of intelligent new energy vehicles”.

The automaker had yet to reveal when construction would begin and the planned capacity.

A company spokesman added: “The tie-up with Indomobil completes our dual assembly plan for south east Asia. We will bring more options for the local EV market.”
