After the entry of Renault through a joint-venture with Mahindra & Mahindra, it is now the turn of partner Nissan to look seriously at the Indian market.
The company, which already imports the X-Trail compact SUV into India as a completely built unit, is now looking at setting up a manufacturing facility here. This is part of Nissan’s global so called value up plan which involves cutting costs by 15% and selling 28 new and redesigned vehicle models globally by March 2008.
Indians see Nissan as a strong, quality brand but it sells only around 20 small SUVs a month.
