Honda Motor this week announced it is recalling around 2.5 million vehicles in the US due to a defective fuel pump, while Toyota said it is recalling one million vehicles in the country due to defective airbag systems.

In the case of Honda, the fuel pump impeller was improperly moulded, increasing the risks of the engine failing to start or stalling while driving. It affects Honda and Acura model-year 2017 to 2020 vehicles, including the Civic, Accord, Odyssey, CRV, HRV, Fit, Passport, Ridgeline and Acura RDX, RLX and TLX. The automaker said it will replace the fuel pumps on all vehicles affected in separate phases at no cost to the owners, with the first notification letters scheduled to be sent out in February.

In the case of Toyota a defective sensor may cause the airbags not to deploy, or deploy improperly, increasing the risk of injury. The recall affects Toyota model-year 2020 to 2022 vehicles, including the Avalon, Camry, Highlander, RAV4, Sienna and Corolla models, including hybrid versions. The Lexus models affected include the ES250 sedan and the RX350 SUV.

These vehicles have defective sensors which could potentially short circuit, risking a failure to deploy or to deploy properly in certain kinds of crashes. Toyota said its dealers will carry out inspections on the affected models and replace the parts if necessary at no cost to the owners.
