The global automotive industry experienced a 7% rise in new job postings related to electric vehicles in Q3 2023 compared with the previous quarter, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics. This compares to a 25% decrease versus Q3 2022.

Architecture and Engineering Occupations jobs accounted for a 15% share of the global automotive industry’s electric vehicles-related total new job postings in Q3 2023, up 2% over the prior quarter.

Architecture and Engineering Occupations, with a share of 15%, emerged as the top electric vehicles-related job roles within the automotive industry in Q3 2023, with new job postings rising by 2% quarter-on-quarter. Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations came in second with a share of 12% in Q3 2023, with new job postings rising by 35% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent electric vehicles roles include Computer and Mathematical Occupations with a 10% share in Q3 2023, Management Occupations with a 10% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in automotive industry accounted for 47% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2023 were Tesla, Polaris, Ford Motor, Lucid Group, and AB Volvo. Together they accounted for a combined share of 47% of all electric vehicles-related new jobs in the automotive industry.

Tesla posted 642 electric vehicles-related new jobs in Q3 2023, Polaris 361 jobs, Ford Motor 243 jobs, Lucid Group 234 jobs, and AB Volvo 203 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 61.25% share of total new job postings, Q3 2023

The largest share of electric vehicles-related new job postings in the automotive industry in Q3 2023 was in the US with 61.25% followed by the UK (7.79%) and Germany (5.96%). The share represented by the US was four percentage points higher than the 57.23% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.

GlobalData analyst Al Bedwell said the results are unsurprising. “Momentum is really pick up in the EV area,” he said. “As the industry ramps up volumes, people are needed to support activity all along the value chain, but especially in product engineering and manufacturing related roles.”
