Seat has applied to the Spanish Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation in the Electric and Connected Vehicle Sector (PERTE VEC) for a subsidy for its planned battery assembly plant in Martorell.
Funding is available for batteries or electric and connected vehicles.
The project is expected to generate 400 direct jobs and around 100 indirect.
The VW group affiliate is spending EUR 300m to build the factory which will also assemble cells supplied by PowerCo from an existing facility in Sagunto, Valencia.
The plant will cover 64,000 square metres.
Construction is expected to commence ‘soon’ for completion in 2025.
