Audi has determined that, in rare cases while driving at a steady rate of speed for a considerable period of time and during extremely low ambient temperatures (below +5 degrees F), the throttle on affected vehicles may not return to idle position due to ice accumulating in the throttle body.  In this instance the driver can apply additional brake force or take other actions (such as shifting into Neutral, turning off the ignition, etc.) to positively stop the vehicle.  In the absence of such action, the vehicle may maintain speed when the driver expects the vehicle to slow.

Owners of affected vehicles in cold-weather states will be notified by first-class mail in October and instructed to bring their vehicles in so that a replacement throttle body kit can be installed.  All work will be completed at no cost to the customer and Audi will reimburse out of pocket expenses related to this recall.

Audi has identified cold-weather states as: Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.  This repair will be available at no cost to owners in all other U.S. states when requested.
