The Malaysian government recently announced plans to extend tax incentives for EVs. By 2025, it plans to install 10,000 EV charging stations.

On 28 September, 2022, BYD named Sime Darby Motors exclusive distributor of its passenger cars in Malaysia. It launched the Atto 3 on 8 December.

BYD NEV sales rose 152.5% year on year to 1,868,543 units in 2022.
