Hon Hai Precision Industry Company unveiled two new electric vehicle (EV) prototypes at its third annual tech day this week in Taipei, Taiwan, as the company continues to expand in the global EV market and reduces its reliance on smartphone manufacture.

Hon Hai, also known as Apple’s top contract manufacturer Foxconn, aims to become a significant player in the global EV industry.

The company has developed the MIH open platform complete with powertrain and has established several EV ventures worldwide.

Earlier this year it completed the acquisition of the 300,000 units a year Lordstown Motors vehicle plant in Ohio.

The two prototype models on display are based on its MIH platform: the Model B crossover hatchback and the all-terrain Model V, the first pickup developed in Taiwan. They could go into production in the US and in Thailand as early as 2024.

The Model B is based on a resized MIH platform used in the Model C with changes to accommodate a new body design.
