Toyota Motor Kyushu held a ceremony on Wednesday to mark the completion of a JPY30bn state-of-the-art factory in Fukuoka Prefecture to make Lexus cars.

Kyodo News said the new factory, built next to a plant in the town of Miyata, will produce 30,000 IS cars a year and serve as a Lexus production foothold along with a factory in Tahara, Aichi Prefecture.

The combined total floor space of the first and second plants in Miyata is about 410,000 square metres, a 1.5-fold increase from the space of the first plant alone.

With the opening of the new factory, Toyota Motor Kyushu plans to double its annual production to 430,000 units and to strengthen exports of finished cars to China and other Asian countries via nearby Hakata port.
