On Wednesday night (14 December), the UAW’s national Ford council endorsed the union’s tentative healthcare agreement and called on the US government to establish a national healthcare programme.

The tentative agreement is subject to ratification by active union members and approval by a federal district court but, beyond this, Ford workers reportedly will not reap any rewards until the middle of 2006.

According to AP, UAW revealed the likely timetable in a report sent to Ford workers in advance of next Thursday’s vote.
