The grave economic situation in Argentina saw vehicle production decrease 30.6 percent in 2001, according to the Argentinean National Automaker’s Federation (Adefa), writes Rogerio Louro Alves.
Argentine car makers produced 235,577 vehicles in 2001 compared with 339,246 in 2000.
Car makers sold 176,702 vehicles in Argentina last year, a fall of 42.4 percent compared to the 306,945 shifted in 2000.
The only good news was in exports. In 2001, 155,123 vehicles were exported from Argentina, an increase of 14.3 percent over the 135,760 units shipped in 2000.
