  1. Nissan Group

Nissan Group

Nissan has undoubtedly benefited from synergies from its alliance with Renault. It also benefits from the Renault-Nissan combined alliance with Daimler. However, the arrest of Renault and Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn in Japan on alleged financial misconduct charges will have as yet unknown and potentially far-reaching consequences for the individual companies and the broader alliance. Nissan could seek to distance itself from Renault, or Renault may try to exercise greater control over the Japanese company. Our provisional view is that the costs of unwinding the alliance ? both directly incurred and through the loss of synergies ? means it’s unlikely that the two firms will separate, although it is possible that they will readdress the balance in the relationship over the coming years.
