Distribution deals signed in Morocco and Tunisia.

Chinese battery electric vehicle (BEV) manufacturer Xpeng Motors has continued its expansion into overseas markets, signing two separate agreements recently with local vehicle distributors in Tunisia and Morocco. The Guangzhou-based automaker said that following its entry into the Egyptian market last year, the company now has a strong presence in the North African region, laying a solid foundation for further expansion into sub-Saharan African markets.

In Morocco, Xpeng signed a distribution agreement with SMEIA, the importer and distributor for brands such as BMW, Mini, and Jaguar Land Rover. Xpeng claimed that SMEIA has a 30% share of the local luxury car market.

In Tunisia, Xpeng has partnered with local company XP Cars Tunisia, which it said has a comprehensive sales and service network in the country. In June last year, the automaker established a partnership with Raya Auto in Egypt, which now sells the Xpeng G9 and P7 models.

Wang Ke, general manager of Xpeng's Middle East and Africa operations, said in a statement: “Africa is one of the key pieces of our global strategy. Morocco, as one of Africa's largest automobile producers, has a mature automotive industry chain. Tunisia, with its geographical location adjacent to Europe, has become a strategic hub connecting the African and European markets. With the addition of the Morocco and Tunisia, that we have established a strong and comprehensive market coverage along the North African coastal economic belt."

Wang Ke further explained: “The African market has huge potential and unique needs. We are confident in collaborating with new partners to explore the markets of Morocco and Tunisia, and we will continue to invest resources to strengthen the service capabilities of local partners through the 'Red Carpet Program', while accelerating the introduction of more intelligent products to bring the most advanced green and smart mobility experience to African consumers.”
