Volvo is expanding its electrification strategy by providing its electric vehicle (EV) drivers with access to more than 17,800 Tesla Supercharger stations across the US and Canada.

This move, complementing the existing network of fast charge points available to Volvo drivers, is expected to significantly enhance the convenience and flexibility of driving a Volvo EV, including the new EX90 flagship SUV.

The new charging options will be accessible through an adapter, included with the purchase of the upcoming 2025 model year Volvo EX90, EX40, and EC40 fully electric vehicles.

For current Volvo EV owners, the North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters are available for order at Volvo retailers in the US and Canada, priced at S$230/C$310 MSRP.

The adapters will be shipped to retailers beginning 18 November, with availability of adapters for the EX30 model to be announced later.

Volvo's app further simplifies the charging process for its EV drivers in North America by enabling them to locate public charging stations, check real-time charger availability, and handle payment through a single interface.

Additionally, the in-car Google Assistant can be used to find and navigate to charging stations, streamlining the experience even further.

Volvo Car USA and Canada president Mike Cottone said: “As part of our journey to electrification, we want to make life with an electric car, including our new flagship EX90, as seamless as possible.

“Today we are taking a major step to providing access to easy and convenient charging infrastructure for Volvo drivers in the United States and Canada, furthering our commitment to EV adoption.”

This week, Volvo and Daimler Truck signed a binding agreement to establish a 50/50 joint venture aimed at developing a software-defined vehicle platform for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

The joint venture’s headquarters will be located in Gothenburg, Sweden.
