Volvo Cars has released a teaser image for the all-new ES90 electric sedan, set to be unveiled on 5 March 2025.  

The ES90 is based on Volvo's Superset tech stack, a unified hardware and software platform for future electric models.  

This is the first Volvo model to feature a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, enhancing core computing capacity.  

NVIDIA's DRIVE AGX Orin core computer is integral for intelligent cars, managing AI-driven safety features, sensors, and battery management, the carmaker said. 

Volvo Car chief engineering and technology officer said Anders Bell said: “The Volvo ES90 is one of the most technically advanced cars on the market today and is designed to be improved further with time.”  

“Built on our state-of-the-art Superset tech stack, the ES90 puts safety at the forefront.” 

Built on the SPA2 architecture, the ES90 is the second vehicle utilising Volvo's Superset tech stack, following the EX90.  

This stack enables quicker rollouts of improvements through over-the-air updates to help improve safety, technology, and performance.  

Updates may include connectivity features, safety enhancements, and improved battery range based on driving behaviours. 

The ES90 comes with a driver understanding system in addition to an array of sensors, including one lidar, five radars, eight cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors.  

These systems are expected to enhance passenger safety by detecting obstacles and activating safety measures like collision avoidance.  

The company said the EX90 models will be upgraded to feature the dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, replacing the current DRIVE AGX Orin and DRIVE AGX Xavier setup.  

Bell added: “We innovate in all areas of technology to become a leader in software-defined cars, and we’re channelling all our engineering efforts into one direction: making great cars that get even better over time. 

“By combining the power of core computing and our Superset tech stack, we can now make safer cars more efficiently than ever before.” 

The news comes as Volvo announced record-breaking retail sales, revenue, and core operating profit for the full-year 2024. 

Despite the strong performance, the company has warned that 2025 could be a difficult year due to challenging market conditions.
