Valeo plans to invest more than €200m ($236.8m) in India to expand electrification, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and artificial intelligence (AI) engineering activities under its Elevate 2028 strategy.

The French automotive supplier plans to triple its local revenue to about €700m by 2028.

The company said the funding-about Rs21.49bn at current exchange rates-will enlarge its manufacturing and engineering presence in India to support domestic and export vehicle programmes.

In electrification, Valeo has started operations at a new facility and dedicated e-axle lines in Pune for a Mahindra & Mahindra electric vehicle project.

It will supply electric powertrain systems for models on Mahindra’s ‘Born Electric’ passenger platform and on-board charger combo units for electric utility vehicles.

The supplier said the programme carries total orders approaching $1bn.

Valeo CEO Christophe Périllat said: “India is a key pillar of Valeo’s global growth and innovation roadmap, and we are committed to significantly expanding our engineering centres and industrial footprint.

“The pace of transformation in the Indian automotive sector is remarkable, driven by a strong focus on electrification, autonomous driving, and sustainable mobility.”

For two- and three-wheelers, Valeo formed a three-party collaboration in 2024 with Atul Greentech and Honda Power Pack Energy India targeting electric three-wheelers, combining battery technology, compact powertrains and vehicle integration.

It is also rolling out a rare-earth-free magnet motor generator for small mobility applications.

In ADAS, Valeo is increasing the scope of its Chennai R&D centre in software development, AI-enabled engineering and validation for global electrification and ADAS projects.

At its Sanand plant in Gujarat, which manufactures ultrasonic sensors for Indian original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), new camera production lines are scheduled to begin by mid-2026.

Valeo is also working with French tech group 2CRSi under a partnership set up in November 2025 to develop liquid-cooling solutions for edge data centres in India.

It includes immersion-cooled edge compute systems for outdoor and 5G infrastructure environments.

The company said its Chennai Group Technical Centre and a satellite site in Bangalore employ more than 3,300 engineers, with expanded in-house laboratory testing and validation capacity.
