Upcoming Opel/Vauxhall SUV reprises Frontera nameplate

The Stellantis brands will present the new model called Frontera later this year

David Leggett January 24 2024

Stellantis has announced the return of the Frontera nameplate for its upcoming crossover SUV to be sold under the Opel and Vauxhall (UK-only) brands later in 2024. It will be available as a BEV variant from launch.

The company says the new Frontera will be a ‘fun car with clever functional features’.

The original Frontera model goes back to the early 1990s and was one of the early crossover SUVs in the European market (and made at a General Motors JV - IBC - in the UK). The Isuzu Rodeo-based Frontera was axed at the end of 2003.

With the arrival of the next Frontera and next-generation Grandland, all Vauxhall/Opel cars and vans on sale in Europe will be available with a fully electric version by the end of 2024.

Opel CEO Florian Huettl said: “The name ‘Frontera’ is ideally suited to our new exciting SUV model. It will have a confident character and be positioned right in the core of the market.”

Opel/Vauxhall will reveal the first images of the new Frontera ‘in the coming weeks’.
