Luke Martin September 26 2023

After ratifying a three year collective agreement with Ford, Canadian auto union Unifor named General Motors as its second bargaining target in its contract renewal talks with the Detroit Three's Canadian units.

The agreement with GM was to expire on 18 September but the two agreed to extend the deadline as Unifor focused on bargaining first with Ford.

Unifor had chosen Ford to “set the pattern agreement” for deals which would also be made with GM and Stellantis.

The Ford deal included a 15% pay increase for the length of the agreement.

Negotiations were to begin today (26 September) and covering 4,300 workers at GM’s St. Catharines powertrain plant, Oshawa assembly complex and Woodstock parts distribution centre.
