Graeme Roberts October 23 2023

Toyota said it would change to Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) plugs in future electric vehicles (EVs) to accelerate its switch to zero emission vehicles.

The automaker said, from 2025, all Toyota and Lexus EV models sold in North America would have Tesla’s charging connector design giving these models access to the largest direct current charging network in the region.

Tesla has a network of 12,000 charging stations in North America, located in prime locations along freeways and other travel corridors and at destinations.

Toyota will also make available from 2025 an to allow existing EV owners to also use the Tesla Supercharger network.

The Tesla plug is fast becoming the EV industry standard in North America with a growing number of automakers agreeing to make their EVs compatible with NACS, including Ford, General Motors and Rivian.

Earlier this year Hyundai-Kia, Honda and BMW also inked a deal with Tesla, significantly improving charging options for their customers.
