Dutch mapping and location technology company TomTom has launched a new advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) software development kit (SDK).
The company said the ADAS SDK has been developed as a modular, lightweight and standalone toolkit that delivers ADAS map data for predictive driver assistance applications.
Aimed at software-defined vehicles, the SDK is intended to help automotive original equipment manufacturers and Tier-1 suppliers scale L2+ driver assistance functions across multiple vehicle platforms and geographic markets.
The SDK provides access to TomTom’s Orbis map data.
According to the company, this structure reduces both development time and development and integration costs when compared with deploying a full navigation stack.
Using the map data, the SDK generates a predictive driving path that includes attributes such as speed limits, lane connectivity, road curvature, gradients and traffic sign information.
It also provides horizon functionality, allowing vehicles to calculate a most probable path to anticipate upcoming road conditions.
This capability can be applied to features including adaptive lighting, hazard warnings and lane-keeping assistance.
TomTom also described the SDK as a compliance-oriented offering for manufacturers entering new markets.
It is designed to support regulatory requirements such as Intelligent Speed Assistance rules and safety assessment protocols set by Euro New Car Assessment Programme, the company said.
For electric vehicles, the SDK offers access to road gradient information and statistical speed profiles.
These inputs are intended to support predictive powertrain management, enabling energy consumption to be optimised based on forthcoming route characteristics.
TomTom said the launch reflects growing industry demand for scalable and cost-effective map-based solutions as higher levels of vehicle automation are introduced.
TomTom product engineering senior vice president Manuela Locarno Ajayi said: “In the transition to automated driving, a vehicle’s ability to anticipate the road ahead is just as critical as its ability to see it.
“Our ADAS SDK provides an out-of-the-box solution to build sophisticated automated driving features in a fast and cost-effective way, significantly accelerating the path to higher levels of automation.”
In October last year, TomTom announced the expansion of its partnership with Hyundai AutoEver (HAE), the mobility software provider of the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG).
This renewed agreement solidified TomTom’s position as a map supplier for HAE, integrating TomTom’s live services, including real-time traffic data and the newly awarded speed camera service, into Hyundai AutoEver’s navigation software to support all Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Genesis models in Europe.
