Tesla delays robotaxi launch – reports

Design team reportedly told to rework elements of the car

Dani Cole July 12 2024

Telsa is delaying the launch of its robotaxi to October, news agencies report.

CEO Elon Musk initially set the date in August, which has now been pushed back as the design team was told to rework some elements of the car, Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the decision.

News of the delay was communicated internally, reports say.

Earlier this year Tesla ostensibly cancelled its small car Model 2 project, a new entry-level Tesla car. Instead it said it would continue developing robotaxis on the small vehicle platform, according to Reuters.

Few details have been offered by Musk on Tesla’s robotaxis, except for announcing the ambitous sounding August unveiling date.

He has previously said some vehicles would be owned and operated by Tesla, with others to be owned by individuals but rented out on Tesla’s network, according to Reuters.
