Tesla issues recall for 2,400 Cybertrucks over faulty drive inverter component

The company has acknowledged five warranty claims related to this defect.

Tesla has announced a recall of 2,400 Cybertruck pickups in the US due to a faulty driver inverter, marking the sixth recall for the model this year.

The identified fault could potentially lead to a loss of power, posing an increased risk of a crash.

The issue stems from a defect in the driver inverter of Cybertrucks manufactured up to 30 July, which may stop producing torque upon accelerator pedal use. This fault could result in the vehicle losing propulsion.

To address this, Tesla will replace the faulty drive inverter with a new, functioning component.

The company has acknowledged five warranty claims related to this defect but has not been made aware of any resultant crashes or injuries.

Tesla will commence the replacement of the recalled drive inverters with the updated component around the second week of December.

This recall follows several others, including last month's recall of over 27,000 Cybertrucks due to delayed rear-view camera images, potentially impairing driver visibility.

Earlier recalls this year involved issues such as a loose accelerator pedal pad and problems with windshield wipers and exterior trim.

Cybertruck deliveries began in 2023 after a two-year delay caused by production and battery supply challenges.

Despite not disclosing specific production or delivery numbers, the Blade Runner-inspired truck has attracted significant attention from investors due to its role in refreshing Tesla's product lineup and the substantial development costs.

In its latest financial report, Tesla posted a profit increase driven by higher sales and lower costs.

Tesla reported a net income of $2.2bn for the quarter ending September 30, marking a 17% year-over-year increase, while operating income rose 54% to $2.7bn, with an operating margin of 10.3%.
