Tesla Berlin gigafactory close to resumption of operations

Power close to being restored after eco-activists' disruption

Dani Cole March 11 2024

E.dis, the energy firm working to restore electricity supply to Tesla’s German gigafactory, has said power may be restored as early as today.

Last week the plant was forced to suspend production and evacuate the site, after a nearby electricity pylon was targeted by arsonists.

The plant normally produces around 1,000 cars a day. It was reported the disruption would cost Tesla approximately €100 million.

The power outrage was initially expected to last until 15 March.

Workers from E.dis, a division of German energy network company E.ON, did ‘speedy’ assembly work over the weekend to ensure power was able to be restored.

Speaking to public broadcaster RBB, Joerg Steinbach, economy minister in Brandenburg, said: "It now looks like it won't take until the end of the week, but that the power supply can be restored sooner," Reuters reported.
