Suzuki, Daihatsu, Toyota to release electric mini-CVs in Q1

Small van optimized for last-mile logistics.

Frankie Youd January 30 2025

Japanese automakers Suzuki Motor, Daihatsu Motor and Toyota Motor jointly announced that they aim to launch new jointly-developed battery-powered mini commercial vans under their respective brands in the 2025 financial year, which ends in March 2025.

In the press release, the automakers said the new battery-powered mini commercial van, designed for optimal last-mile logistics, combines the expertise of both Suzuki and Daihatsu in producing small and mini vehicles with Toyota's extensive powertrain electrification technologies.

The electric mini commercial van was developed with input from the Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation (CJPT), a company originally established in early 2021 between Toyota and local commercial vehicle manufacturers Hino and Isuzu, to co-develop environmentally friendly transportation solutions. Suzuki and Daihatsu joined this partnership later that year, although Daihatsu was expelled from the partnership in early 2024 following its emissions certification falsification scandal.

Suzuki, Daihatsu and Toyota confirmed they remain committed to driving forward the initiatives agreed upon under the CJPT, including achieving carbon neutrality.
