Stellantis has issued a recall for more than 300,000 Ram heavy duty pickup trucks following the discovery of a defective hydraulic control unit that could cause failures in critical braking and stability systems.

The recall is reported by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It affects primarily the 2017-2018 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 models.

Affected vehicles may experience malfunctions in the anti-lock brake system, electronic stability control, and traction control, although regular braking systems remain unaffected.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the defect.

The recall mainly impacts trucks in the United States, with a smaller number in Canada, Mexico, and other regions.

Stellantis has assured customers that free repairs will be available and plans to notify affected vehicle owners.

Also, this month, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares has resigned following reports of strategic disagreements.

Although a retirement plan was set for 2026, the board accepted his resignation immediately.

Last month, the company reported a 20% drop in third-quarter shipments, particularly in North America, where corrective actions are being taken to reduce inventory.

In October 2024, Stellantis announced a recall of 194,000 plug-in hybrid Jeeps due to a potential battery fire risk.

The recall impacted approximately 154,032 vehicles in the US, with additional affected units in Canada (14,038), Mexico (673), and other markets (25,502).

The recall followed an internal investigation prompted by a routine review of customer data, which revealed 13 incidents of fires, all occurring while the vehicles were parked and turned off.

The recall included certain 2020-2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models.
