Stellantis details Melfi model plan

To build five EVs based on the new STLA medium platform

Luke Martin October 04 2023

Stellantis would start production of five new medium size models for Europe and the Middle East at its Melfi plant in Italy between 2024 and 2026, Reuters reported.

Stellantis had said it would build five EV models in Melfi, all based on the new STLA medium platform, but until now had not provided details about the plan, including confirming Melfi would build a new Jeep model.

According to the news agency, this lack of clarity had prompted unions last month to call a one day strike at the factory which employs around 5,800 workers.

The announcement would smooth labour relationships in Europe when the group is facing prolonged strikes in North America over UAW contract renewals.

New production in Melfi would start early in 2024 with a DS model followed in 2025 by the new Jeep Compass and a second DS model.

Production of Opel and Lancia models would start in 2026.

Assembly of current models, the Fiat 500X and Jeep Compass and Renegade, would end between 2024 and 2025, Reuters added.

Metaverse has the potential to disrupt all stages of the automotive value chain

Although the impact of the metaverse on the automotive industry is minor so far, this technology promises to make digital media experiences more immersive, inclusive, and accessible than today. Its impacts will be particularly felt by OEMs and sales and marketing. As the light vehicle market becomes increasingly saturated, investment will be redirected towards improving in-car media and safety features, leading to an increasingly connected vehicle network.
