Aim is to create a hydrogen-powered heavy truck manufacturing hub in China.

Chinese hydrogen technology company, Beijing SinoHytec Company has signed a strategic alliance with local energy, chemicals, and heavy equipment company Pengfei Group, to scale up the production and adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technologies in commercial vehicles, according to local reports citing a company statement on WeChat.

The two companies have agreed to leverage their respective in-house technologies to carry out joint research and development, with a view to establishing facilities for large-scale production of high-quality hydrogen fuel cell systems in Lüliang city, in China’s Shanxi Province. The two companies said they aim to establish the city as a "national hub for hydrogen-powered heavy truck manufacturing."

Pengfei Group already has a full hydrogen supply chain in place, from production, storage to transportation and refueling facilities, and currently operates a fleet of 70,000 heavy-duty trucks. The two companies will initially collaborate on expanding the use of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles within Pengfei’s terminal fleet, including 100 heavy-duty trucks and 250 logistics vehicles. SinoHytec will provide its core fuel cell system technologies, while Pengfei Group will build additional hydrogen refueling stations and a digital platform to help validate the viability and reliability of hydrogen-powered vehicles.
