Signal: Toyoda Gosei invests in Pyrenee Inc

Toyoda Gosei's investment ups its ADAS game

David Leggett September 27 2023

Toyoda Gosei Co Ltd, has invested in Pyrenee Inc, a specialist in developing driving assistance technology.

Pyrenee Drive, developed by Pyrenee Inc., is a retrofit device that assists the cognitive aspect of safe driving. It captures things around the vehicle that drivers may fail to notice – a significant factor in accidents. The device is mounted on the automobile dashboard or elsewhere in the vehicle, and detects pedestrians and other automobiles and predicts their movement with AI.

According to GlobalData’s deals database,  the investment was made in September 2023, through Toyoda Gosei’s Corporate Venture Capital Dept., an internal organization dedicated to these investments.

Deal Rationale

Toyoda Gosei invested in Pyrenee because of its position in ADAS tech that can help to reduce traffic accidents. In particular, the technology can help to prevent traffic accidents caused by driver neglect and other human errors. Further, the collaboration of the two companies has a future vision toward integration of Pyrenee’s driver assistance technology into Toyoda Gosei’s safety systems and interior products.

There are also plans for release as a product that improves the safety of trucks and other large commercial vehicles that are potentially at risk of involvement in serious road traffic accidents.
