Dani Cole October 23 2023

Siemens said it had won a contract to supply 200 EV fast chargers to Turkey. its largest single order for direct current fast chargers to date.

The order was from Ankara based Astor Enerji, which makes transformer and switchgear products, as part of plans to build charging stations throughout the country.

The company plans chargers every 200km (120 miles) along highways all over the country and at some shopping centres. As part of the contract, Siemens will also provide control and monitoring.

At least 150 chargers are scheduled to be operational by the end of this year with the remainder to be delivered by February 2024.

Astor Energy chairman Feridun Gecgel said: “The number of electric vehicles in our country is expected to reach 2.5m in 10 years. Along with the electric vehicle transformation, [charging infrastructure creation] is also of great importance.”

Current projections suggest Turkey's charging station infrastructure will increase by around half through 2030 when up to 2m electric cars are expected to be on the road.
