Seven automakers form charging JV

Another network for North America

Luke Martin July 26 2023

BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis have announced a joint venture (JV) charging network for North America.

Reuters said the new company was formed “in a challenge to Tesla and a bid to take advantage of Biden administration subsidies”.

The project will develop a network with 30,000 high speed chargers accessible to all battery powered EVs using Combined Charging System (CCS) or North American Charging Standard (NACS) plugs.

The first stations are expected to open in the US by summer 2024 and in Canada later.

Facilities will open first in metropolitan areas and on major highways.

They will have canopies where possible and amenities like rest rooms, food service and retail operations either nearby or in the complex.
