The Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) in the US has chosen Lynkwell to deliver electric vehicle (EV) charging station load management and network support services.

This move aims to enhance SCPPA's existing infrastructure and support future expansions.

SCPPA, a joint powers entity formed in 1980, represents a coalition of 11 municipal utilities and an irrigation district, collectively powering a substantial customer base of over five million Californians.

SCPPA's members are responsible for supplying 16% of the city’s electricity and managing a network of more than 800 charging stations for public and private use.

Recognising the critical need for scalable and manageable charging solutions amid the surge in EV adoption, SCPPA issued a request for proposals, culminating in a three-year contract with Lynkwell.

As part of the agreement, Lynkwell will provide SCPPA and its member utilities with access to its ViaLynk network, facilitating a range of services.

These include a subscription to the ViaLynk software platform, enabling the management and monitoring of charging stations, and network integration services to ensure seamless onboarding of existing and future charging infrastructure onto the network.

Additionally, Lynkwell will offer custom feature development to cater to the specific requirements of SCPPA members, including reporting, analytics, and branding services.

Compliance with California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) will also be supported through dedicated reporting services provided by Lynkwell.

The comprehensive charging station management system (CSMS) platform from Lynkwell underpins the ViaLynk network and supports numerous other white-labelled networks.

Lynkwell's focus on service is reflected in its entirely US-based team, which offers 24/7 support to SCPPA's charging hosts and drivers.

The platform's Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) 2.0.1 certification ensures compatibility with a wide array of hardware, readiness for ISO15118 Plug and Charge, improved security features, and expanded transaction capabilities.

Lynkwell's platform is also integrated with worldwide roaming networks such as Hubject and ChargeHub, maximising accessibility for EV drivers.

The platform enables site hosts to customise the charging experience and manage energy consumption with features tailored to their needs.

In a bid to upgrade existing charging solutions, Lynkwell offers a comprehensive package that combines its CSMS, the Universal Pedestal, the flagship XLynk charger, and extensive service coverage.

Lynkwell of North American sales vice president Will DeRuve said: “California is building charging infrastructure for the future. “Lynkwell continues to see extensive growth with organisations like SCPPA since our platform provides world-class functionality and the flexibility to evolve as charging evolves.”
