Posco starts building EV parts plant in Poland

The company broke ground on a 100,000 square metre site in Brzeg

Graeme Roberts June 13 2024

Posco International, part of South Korea’s largest steel make Posco, began construction of a new plant in Poland to make traction motor cores for electric vehicles (EVs).

The company broke ground on a 100,000 square-metre site in Brzeg, in southern Poland.

The factory was scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2025 and will eventually have a production capacity of 1m cores per year.

The plant would mainly supply motor cores for Hyundai and Kia EVs produced in the region.

Brzeg would mainly supply motor cores to Hyundai Mobis’ plant in Gbelany, Slovakia, where they would be assembled into EV drive modules for delivery to HMG vehicle assembly plants in the region.

Posco was fast establishing itself as a key global supplier of EV parts, having signed contracts to supply 12m motor cores to Hyundai and Kia over the last two years.
