Luke Martin July 27 2023

Porsche has opened its first charging lounge' near Bingen am Rhein, Germany, as a pilot project for building its own fast charging infrastructure across Europe.

The facility has six 300kW DC fast charging stations and four 22kW AC points.

Chargers, made by Alpitronic, can be upgraded.

The automaker plans to expand the network further with additional locations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

It will have a larger number of stations equipped with 400kW chargers by January 2024.

The site has a heat pump for heating and air conditioning and doesn't use fossil fuels.

Photovoltaic solar cells on the roof generate some of the electricity while an intelligent building management system optimises consumption.

Initial cost is EUR0.33 per kilowatt hour.

Access requires a specific charging card or QR code from an app.
