Nio, Bosch in SDV technology partnership

Broad-based collaboration to include Nio’s Onvo and Firefly brands.

Chinese battery electric vehicle (BEV) manufacturer Nio Inchas signed a broad-based agreement with German automotive components supplier Bosch to collaborate on the development of advanced technologies for smart electric vehicles. The partnership agreement was signed during a state visit to China by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the end of February.

New York Stock Exchange-listed Nio confirmed that the two companies have agreed to collaborate on the development and application of core technologies for software-defined vehicles (SDVs), such as drive-by-wire chassis systems including braking, steering, and powertrain systems, battery management systems, body electronics and sensing modules including cameras, LiDAR, and radar.

The partnership, which also includes Nio’s Onvo and Firefly brands, is in line with a growing industry-wide shift towards SDV architectures and electrified platforms.

Through this agreement, Nio said it expects the two companies “to further advance joint innovation in critical smart EV technologies, leveraging complementary strengths across the industrial value chain to support high-quality development of the sector. The partnership also underscores the continued deepening of China–Germany cooperation in energy transition and high-end manufacturing, contributing to sustainable global development and strengthened bilateral economic ties.”
