New US charger grant

Will fund 47 EV charging and alternative fuelling infrastructure projects in 22 states and Puerto Rico

Dani Cole January 15 2024

The US Department of Transportation has launched a US$623m grant for electric vehicle charging across the country.

The announcement came ahead of the EV Charging Summit and Expo planned for March.

Luke Vinci, president of MVP Media Network, which hosts the summit, said: "The future of the EV charging sector is going to be shaped by these grants and by the discussion and collaboration they inspire."

This funding injection, made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law's Charging and Fuelling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program, supports the Biden administration's goal of establishing a reliable national network of EV chargers.

The grants, which will fund 47 EV charging and alternative-fuelling infrastructure projects in 22 states and Puerto Rico, will lead to the construction of approximately 7,500 EV charging ports. This investment supports the goal of providing at least 500,000 publicly available chargers by 2030.
