Hyundai Motor Group’s autonomous driving subsidiary, Motional, revealed at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2026) in Las Vegas that it plans to launch a Level 4 self-driving taxi service in Las Vegas by the end of 2026, in a display of confidence in the safety aspect of its autonomous driving technologies.

Motional is understood to be in the final stages of validating the safety, drive-quality and customer experience of its self-driving taxis, having carried out pilot tests of the autonomous ride-hailing service in major cities around the world since 2018, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Singapore.

The company plans to begin advanced trials of its Level 4 driverless taxi service early this year, using Hyundai Ioniq 5 models for the service.

Motional’s CEO, Laura Major, said the company “takes safety very seriously in every development phase from technological progress to commercialisation. Commercialisation is the stage where we have proved the readiness of our technology to safely serve customers.”
