Mitsubishi’s global vehicle production rises by 18% in March

Output in the last fiscal year was up slightly, underpinned by domestic production.

Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors Corporation reported an 18% year-on-year increase in global production to 86,982 vehicles in March 2026, following a 12% decline to 73,747 units in the same month last year. Production in Japan grew for the fifth consecutive month in March, increasing by 26% to 51,761 units, while overseas output was up by almost 8% to 35,221 units.

Sales in Japan, including vehicles imported from overseas, surged by 30% to 16,423 units last month, while exports from Japan jumped by 46% to 24,097 units, with exports to North America rising by 27% to 11,578 units.

In the last full fiscal year, between April 2025 and March 2026, global production increased slightly to 913,279 vehicles, after declining by 10% to 909,743 units in the previous fiscal year. Domestic output increased by just 2.2% to 488,983 units, while overseas production fell by 1.6% to 424,296 units. Sales in Japan increased by 4.5% to 122,823 units in this period, while exports declined slightly to 236,605 units.
