Mitsubishi launches Nissan-made Versa minibus in the Philippines

The two companies continue to expand their collaboration under their ‘Alliance’ partnership.

Mitsubishi Motors has announced that it has launched sales of its all-new Versa minibus, sourced from its ‘Alliance’ partner Nissan Motor on an OEM basis. The Japanese automaker said that the new Versa can be used for a wide range of light commercial vehicle activities, including shuttle services, and will be sold alongside its existing Mitsubishi L300 model.

The new rear-wheel-drive Versa has five rows of seats and can accommodate up to 15 passengers. It is powered by a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine with a maximum power output of 129 hp and 356 Nm of torque, coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. Prices start at PHP 1,649,000 (US$ 28,430).

The Versa is the latest example of the expanding product and technology collaboration between the two ‘Alliance’ partners, as they look to reduce costs by sharing product development costs, expand market coverage, and optimize production capacity utilisation.

The two companies are also collaborating on the development and production of next-generation pickup trucks, mini-vehicles, and electrified vehicles. Mitsubishi recently began producing the Nissan Rogue plug-in hybrid SUV for sale by its partner in North America and the Nissan Navara pickup truck for sale in Oceania. It also produces the Livina model, which Nissan sells mainly in the Philippines.

Mitsubishi is scheduled to begin sales of a version of the Nissan Leaf battery electric vehicle (BEV) in North America from the second half of 2026.
