Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors has launched production of two additional Nissan models, as the two companies continue to strengthen their collaboration under the Alliance global partnership.

Mitsubishi confirmed that it began producing the Rogue Plug-in Hybrid SUV at its Okazaki plant in Japan on 12 January, for sale by Nissan in North America starting in the first quarter of 2026. The company also launched production of the Nissan Navara pickup truck at its Laem Chabang plant in Thailand in late December, which Nissan plans to sell in markets across Oceania from the end of the first quarter.

Mitsubishi and Nissan have been working closely on new vehicle development and new technologies under the Alliance partnership, which also includes Honda and Renault, covering the development of pickup trucks and powertrain electrification, as well as global business expansion.

Mitsubishi already has a number of OEM supply deals with Nissan, including mini-vehicles and light commercial vehicles in Japan, and produces the Nissan Livina at its plant in Jakarta, Indonesia, which Nissan sells within Southeast Asia.

Mitsubishi is also scheduled to receive OEM supply of a battery electric vehicle (BEV) derived from Nissan’s new Leaf model, which it plans to sell in North America from the second half of 2026.

Mitsubishi said in a statement: “As Alliance partners, Mitsubishi and Nissan continue to collaborate globally on next-generation pickup truck development and production, as well as electrified vehicle initiatives and business expansion. OEM supplies of the Rogue PHEV and Navara represent a tangible outcome of this Alliance. Through these initiatives, Nissan enhances its product lineup, while Mitsubishi improves its plant utilization, forming a mutually beneficial partnership.”

The company added that it aims to “continue to strengthen its operations and broaden its product portfolio through partnerships, while focusing on improving profitability.”
