South Korean automaker Kia Corporation unveiled its latest battery electric vehicle (BEV), the EV5, based on its parent company Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The new SUV joins an expanding range of Kia battery-powered vehicles, which includes the EV3, EV4, EV6, EV9, and the PV5 minibus/van.

The “family-oriented” all-electric EV5 comes with a “bold” SUV exterior, a spacious minimalist interior with panoramic display that integrates a 12.3-inch cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and a dedicated 5-inch climate control panel.

The EV5 is driven by a 160 kW electric motor and comes with a choice of two batteries: 60 kWh for the Base-Line model and 81 kWh for the GT-Line. The Base-Line model has a range of 530 km on a single charge, while the GT model has a range of 505 km.

The EV5 range will be rolled out in South Korea and Europe in the second half of 2025, with sales in North America scheduled to start in early 2026.

Kia president and CEO, Ho Sung Song, said in a statement: “The EV5 represents a significant step in Kia’s shift toward electrified mobility. This vehicle was developed not only to expand our electric lineup, but to make EV ownership more practical and appealing to a broader range of drivers. With the EV5’s global launch, we are reinforcing our presence in key markets including Korea, Europe and North America, and continuing our commitment to making sustainable mobility more accessible worldwide.”
