Kia Corporation has announced that it has begun mass production of its newly-developed Kia Syros small SUV in India, following the model’s official global unveiling at the end of last month.

Kia India held a “milestone ceremony” at its plant in Anantapur, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, to mark the beginning of Syros production – an event attended by Kia Corporation’s CEO Ho Sung Song and Kia India’s managing director Gwanggu Lee.

Kia said the Syros was specifically designed to meet the needs of Indian customers, “setting new standards in terms of design, technology and space”. The company has achieved 10,258 pre-sales for the model since it was unveiled last month, which it says signals significant market potential for the model in India. Official sales are scheduled to begin on 1st February.

Kia confirmed the five-seater Syros SUV was designed and engineered following in-depth analysis of local market trends, adding that the vehicle’s “design, practicality and connectivity features were key drivers in the model’s initial market interest.”

The Syros features first-in-segment rear sliding, reclining and ventilated seats and more than 80 connected features. It comes with a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon Premium 8 Speaker Sound System and Over-the-Air (OTA) software update capability. It also comes with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with 16 autonomous safety features, including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist, 360 Degree Camera with Blind View Monitor and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go.

Speaking at the production launch event, Ho Sung Song said: “We are delighted with the interest our customers in India have already shown in the new Kia Syros SUV. This is a positive sign ahead of the Syros’s market introduction in India and a testament to Kia’s customer-centric focus, delivering vehicles that provide value to our customers through the innovative features and services on offer.”
