Tata Motors-owned premium carmaker Jaguar Land Rover’s chief creative officer, Gerry McGovern, has left the company after a long spell in charge of its design strategy.

McGovern was credited with reshaping the Jaguar brand and playing a central role in the design direction of the group’s vehicles.

Automotive magazine Autocar India first reported his departure on 2 December, citing sources.

McGovern left the business on Monday (1 December), the report said.

No explanation for his exit has been made public so far, and the company has not yet revealed who will replace him.

The move comes shortly after a change at the top of the Tata Motors-owned manufacturer.

Former Tata Motors finance chief PB Balaji took over as Jaguar Land Rover chief executive two weeks ago, succeeding Adrian Mardell.

McGovern has been a prominent figure at Jaguar Land Rover for around two decades, serving as long-term head of design and as a member of the company’s board.

In 2023, he led a major repositioning of Jaguar as an all electric, ultra premium brand.

As part of this change, the company revealed the Type 00 concept car, which has a long bonnet, low roofline and no rear window.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) posted a loss in the second quarter of fiscal 2026 after a cyber-attack at Jaguar Land Rover disrupted production and sales.

Jaguar Land Rover incurred £196m ($258.5m) in exceptional direct costs because of the cyberattack.

The cyber-attack forced the automaker to shut down its IT systems and suspend manufacturing for five weeks, including at its sites in Solihull, Wolverhampton and Halewood.

McGovern was also known for his close relationship with Ratan Tata, the longtime Tata Group leader who died in 2024.
