IM Motors starts selling L6 BEV

Built on the company’s Lingxi 'digital' chassis which enables the vehicle to 'crab walk' sideways

Graeme Roberts April 19 2024

IM Motors, the battery electric vehicle (BEV) brand of China’s largest vehicle manufacturing group SAIC Motor, has begun pre sales of its new L6 smart battery powered sedan which was claimed to have an array of "cutting edge" technology.

The L6 is built on the company’s Lingxi 'digital' chassis which enables the vehicle to 'crab walk' sideways making it easier to park in tight places.

The car has Nvidia OrinX and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 smart cockpit chips.

The L6 is the first SAIC Motor model to be fitted with mass produced, fast charging semi solid state batteries which have capacity of up to 133KWh, allowing the car to travel up to 1,000 km (600 miles) on a single charge under the China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

The 900 volt platform permits peak charging power of 400kW with a 10 minute charge giving the new car enough power for 400km (250 miles).

The four wheel drive (4WD) model can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62mph) in just 2.7 seconds and has a top speed of 268km/h (166mph).

Pre sale prices range between CNY230,000 (US$31,800) and CNY330,000 ($45,600) and the company claimed it had received "more than" 10,000 orders for the model within a day of its launch event.
