Hyundai Motor confirmed it began taking pre-orders for its latest battery electric vehicle (BEV) model, the Ioniq 9, in South Korea this week.

The automaker’s new flagship zero-emissions SUV, based on the E-GMP platform, features three rows of seats “comfortably accommodating seven people in a lounge-like interior”.

The Ioniq 9 is powered by a 110.3 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack, providing a maximum driving range of 532 km for standard models and up to 620 km for the long-range rear-wheel-drive model. The company pointed out that it can be charged from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes using a 350 kW charger.

The Ioniq 9 range has been priced locally at between KRW67.1m (US$45,600) for the 7-seater “Exclusive” model and KRW79.4m (US$53,980) for the top of the range six-seater model.

The Ioniq 9 is set to go into production imminently at Hyundai’s Ulsan plant in South Korea, with production at the HMG Metaplant America plant in Bryan County, in the US state of Georgia, scheduled to start later the quarter, with sales scheduled to start in the second quarter. The US is expected to be a key market for the model.
